This recipe can also easily be made in a crock pot. You will basically follow the same instructions but place the fruit in the bottom of the slow cooker. Then you flip the cake over, add the chopped butter and cook on low for 3-4 hours or on high for 2-3 hours. I like to do it this way if I need to use my oven for something else. So simple and easy, cooking takes little more time.
Want to take this dessert camping? You can also easily make it in a flame dutch oven. For easy cleanup, make sure to line with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray. Dump the fruit filling into the bottom of the Dutch oven and then pour the cake mix on top. Spread gently, but do not mix. Then add the chopped butter on top of the cake mix. Place the lid on the Dutch oven and cook over the hot coals for about 30 minutes. I recommend checking how fast the cake is cooking and adjusting the cooking time depending on your heat.
