Appetizer Recipes Using Fig Jam
The secret to puff pastry is twofold: First, let it defrost in the refrigerator overnight before using. And, when rolling it out, do so gently, just to smooth out and get out any creases or cracks, not to roll it out. Using a “quick defrost” – just set it on the counter for a couple of hours, you can try to unroll it too soon, and it might rip or tear, or too late, when the butter starts to melt, which There can be “pastry puffs” that are super cute! So, definitely, plan ahead and if possible, defrost overnight in the fridge for better workability and softness!

This particular appetizer has everything we want in an appetizer. Personally, I like an appetizer that is 1-2 bites, that can be picked up and eaten – an appetizer for which a plate is nice, but not necessary. And, above all, it needs both great taste and excellent texture! And, he has all these things! Crispy, light crust, topped with creamy, earthy goat cheese, fruity fig jam and savory, salty prosciutto. Very delicious! A light topping of fresh thyme seals the deal.
You can also make a whole tart, not cut into 2-bite squares, but rather serve 3 or 4 using a full size tart – a lovely light meal when paired with a crispy salad! A completely versatile and impressive recipe either way!
So, what are your favorite kitchen shortcuts? I have to say, microwave lemonade is the most used shortcut in my kitchen! But for an appetizer? Chevron with puff pastry, fig jam and prosciutto!

If you are making this appetizer at any other time of the year, you can find fig jam in any supermarket.
This will usually be by the deli section, where the specialties are but also check your international (European) food isle.
If fig jam cannot be sourced, you can certainly make your own with either dried or fresh figs.
If using dried figs, check the sugar content. If sugar is added to the figs, you need to boil them in water until they become soft and then clean them.

When using fresh figs, you need to cut them in half, boil them in water with sugar and clean them.
Fig jam is great on all kinds of vegetables. It’s delicious on toasted bread like this cristini but also on crackers.

The berries come “wrapped” in a white rind and people often wonder if they should eat them or not.
The rind from Brie cheese comes out of the aging process and is edible. Whether to eat it or not is a personal preference but it definitely enhances the flavor of the cheese.
I add a compound butter that I make by adding roasted garlic and onion salt to room temperature butter.
Baked Brie With Fig Jam And Pecans
Bake the cristini for 2-3 minutes to crisp them up before adding the brie and fig jam. Brie melts very easily and if you don’t bake the cristini first, the brie will melt and your bread will still be soft.

One of my all-time favorite cristini recipes is this fig and prosciutto cristini recipe! Salty prosciutto topped with sweet figs on a crispy baguette and creamy triple cream cheese! This fig and prosciutto cristini recipe is so delicious with some creamy, rich cheese! I like to add the cheese to the toasted bread while it is still warm so it spreads easily and almost melts into the bread. For this recipe, I like to use Saint-Andre triple cream cheese. This soft, berry-like cheese is buttery with an extra creamy and mild flavor. You can also use this recipe with regular brie cheese or even plain goat cheese. Even the rich and creamy burrata cheese is a great option!
The first step to making any cristini recipe is to prepare the bread! I love using toasted rusk baguettes for these prosciutto crostini. I roll the bread thinly, about 1/3 inch thick, and place it on the baking sheet. After that, I brushed the brush very lightly with olive oil and then put it under the broiler for a few minutes. Using your oven broiler is the fastest way to toast a lot of bread!
