Or, frosting then frosting for a flaky pie crust? Salt in water while boiling eggs to make them easier to peel? Or that the simplest appetizer has the perfect combination of flavors and textures with just 4 store-bought ingredients? This goat cheese fig jam prosciutto appetizer can’t be beat! So easy to make with flaky, buttery, store-bought puff pastry, this one could be your go-to holiday appetizer! I’ve made this wonderful combination of goat cheese (chevre) with fig jam and prosciutto on cristini before, and it’s delicious, to be sure! But I find that puff pastry is so much easier to work with and the added texture of buttery flaky pastry – WOWZA!

The secret to puff pastry is twofold: First, let it defrost in the refrigerator overnight before using. And, when rolling it out, do so gently, just to smooth out and get out any creases or cracks, not to roll it out. Using a “quick defrost” – just set it on the counter for a couple of hours, you can try to unroll it too soon, and it might rip or tear, or too late, when the butter starts to melt, which There can be “pastry puffs” that are super cute! So, definitely, plan ahead and if possible, defrost overnight in the fridge for better workability and softness!
