I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for football season to start. I like to spend weekends with my family and friends. I’m not into college football, but the Cowboys are on every Sunday in our house. (You can take a girl out of Texas, but you can’t take Texas out of a girl.) One of my favorite things about this appetizer is how easy it is to make. After you cut the kielbasa and pineapple, all you have to do is assemble the bites, mix the glaze and bake. My kids love to help me in the kitchen, so when we’re done, we all grab toothpicks and start making bites. As they help, they also get first dibs on the finished product after it cools enough to eat. We like to call quality control.

One of my most popular recipes is my Grandma’s cocktail meatballs. It’s a super simple recipe that consists of only three ingredients. Today’s recipe for Slow Cooker Kielbasa Bites is very similar. Although I have made a bite of kielbasa using only the ingredients I used in the cocktail meatballs, I love the depth of the flavor added by the additional ingredients that I have included in the recipe below.

The combination of grape jelly and chili sauce can be surprising, maybe even alarming 🙂 I assure you, it’s fantastic. For the kielbasa bites, I added barbecue sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and onion powder. I think you will love this upgrade!

It’s versatile enough to serve at a cocktail party food buffet with other elegant hors d’oeuvres, or alongside casual fare for a football game day party. In fact, you can add it to your breakfast and brunch party as well.

Kielbasa bites are a balance of savory and sweet, similar to bourbon meatballs or smoked sausage in an easy bbq sauce.

But be careful; they are quite addictive! If you love the classic grape jelly and chili sauce, you’ll love this version.

Best Kielbasa Bites Recipe

Kielbasa. There are many options in this category, from beef to pork to turkey. I prefer to use turkey kielbasa for this recipe because it’s leaner and tastes great with the sauce. You should avoid using spicy or Cajun flavors as they tend to overpower the flavor of the sauce. You will use the cooked links and slice them into 1/4-inch medallions to make appetizer bites.

Red pink plum. It’s sweet and slightly tart, and makes a DELICIOUS sauce for meat. You can replace it with apricot jam, or peach preserve.

Dijon mustard. Dijon is creamy and a little spicy, and adds a nice depth and tanginess to help balance out the sweet jam.

PARTY TIP: For small parties just cut the ingredients in half to serve 4 to 6 appetizer portions.

While the kielbasa is cooking, heat the jam and mustard together in a saucepan. Stir occasionally until mixture is combined and smooth.

PARTY TIP: Transfer kielbasa and sauce to a chafing dish or slow cooker to keep warm while entertaining.

This way, you don’t get that delicious crust on the outside of the sausage, but you can cook the slices first before adding them to the crockpot if you want.

If you’re serving as appetizers, you can round out the menu with fresh cut vegetable crudites, hot or cold dips, and a cheese board.
