This appetizer tastes completely homemade, even when you rely on store-bought shortcuts. During busy times like the holidays, we need all the help we can get, while also aiming to impress.

In addition to saving time during the holidays, this time of year is also one when I become more mindful of how I spend. The holidays are special, but it’s also a time when we find ourselves shopping more than usual.

For this recipe, I found all the ingredients I needed at Walmart, which has an impressive assortment of holiday items. And as a chef who has long believed that making something special should be accessible to everyone, I appreciate the consistent value that Walmart offers, especially this time of year. I’m also a big believer in picking them up at the grocery store. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s a real time saver!

The subtle surprise ingredient here is chipotle chile powder. It adds a subtle smokiness at the end that makes these bites unforgettable. (Don’t worry, the quantity is so small, these are not spicy.)

These cream cheese appetizers are easy to make ahead of time. Make the filling and pre-bake the crust the day before, then assemble and finish baking just before serving. These taste great at room temperature too.

When it comes to Christmas party food, I look for simple ideas with ingredients that either look or feel like Christmas to me. And with this cranberry cream cheese appetizer, we got both! The red, green, and white colors featured in this dish are perfect for the holidays, while the cranberries and cream cheese taste like a Christmas appetizer to me!

Making blueberry cream cheese appetizers like this one is really quite simple. Last month we featured cranberry salsa served over soft cream cheese and the flavor combination was killer. When I made this cranberry relish with fresh cranberries, I knew it would be great for appetizers. Any recipe you normally make that contains jam or jelly would taste delicious with this sweet tasting recipe. Four ingredients and 5 minutes are all you need. I recommend preparing your cranberry relish at least a few hours in advance so the flavors have a chance to meld and thicken.

Now that you’ve got your blueberry relish ready, it’s time to make your cream cheese mixture. For this, I beat the soft cream cheese and diced green onions until well blended.

While you can serve this appetizer cold, I wanted mine warmed. These phyllo cups are perfect for making quick Christmas food.

I poured the cream cheese mixture evenly into 30 filo cups and used the back of a spoon to create a well to retain the cranberry flavor.

Ten minutes in a preheated oven is all you need to heat up these little cups of deliciousness.

That’s all you need to do to make these adorable little appetizer cups. The best part about them is even when you refrigerate them, they still taste good. If you’re short on time, you can replace the homemade spice with a store-bought jam or jelly, but I think it’s worth it. The recipe is so quick and very versatile for other uses.

Try Neiman Marcus Dip, a holiday favorite of mine, or show off more red and green on your buffet table with this avocado toast topped with tomatoes and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Huh!

These Cream Cheese Appetizer Cups use chive and onion cream cheese. This is a beautiful thing for two reasons.

I added the cream to sweeten the flavor a bit and also thin it out a bit more.

All that’s left to do is top these little wonders with some of my favorite veggies and fresh dill and I’m good to go! I use radishes, cucumbers and tomato slices, but you can also top them with chopped bell pepper, sugar snap peas, broccoli, blanched asparagus slices and so on. Whatever you like!
