So many people feel the need to cheat on their diet this time of year. With parties and gatherings and sugary foods and carb-laden treats all around, sometimes it’s hard to resist.

Keto Appetizer Recipes

But let’s face it, sometimes the pressure to cheat isn’t even about the food. It’s social pressure to “fit in” with the crowd. It might be about not hurting someone’s feelings by not eating the food they brought. It could even be party jitters that make you try to calm your nerves with food.

Buffalo Chicken Celery Sticks

I struggle with all of these things, but over the years I have developed ways to deal with these pressures. I’m not saying I never cheat. I’m human. I just learned that quitting keto is not worth the week of inflammation that follows.

To keep me on track, I usually have two or three appetizers (or passable dishes, depending on the type of party). This way I know for sure that I have food that I can safely eat. At a party, I load up my “safe food” on my plate, but I can eat anything else that I’m pretty sure is low carb. Good options can be slices of cheese, olives, salad, meat (watch out for sauces though) or simple vegetables. This way, I feel like I have a plate full of goodies, just like everyone else at the party.

If I’m nervous, and I usually am because of my total introvert nature, I can bite off the tension with food that doesn’t give me a problem.

I also don’t mention to people that I eat low carb. I find that if I don’t tell people I’m eating low carb, people don’t pay attention to what’s on my plate. If people know then they start checking what I eat and commenting.

Keto And Low Carb Holiday Appetizers That Will Disappear From The Table Fast

The hardest problem I see is the person who is personally offended when you don’t eat the food they brought. I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings! I still haven’t found a great way to handle this. Sometimes I just tell them that their food looks delicious, but I’m completely stuffed. If I meet them at the beginning of the party and I have a plate full of food, I tell them I’ll look into it later.

Although I always focus on the food (I have a food blog after all). I remind myself that the real point of a party is to socialize. I embrace the moment and engage in conversation and fun.

Of course, for these strategies to work, great low-carb recipes are a must! I scoured the web to put together this roundup of recipes. I hope these low carb appetizer recipes from my blog, as well as many others, will help make your holiday season deliciously low carb.
