Pillsbury Crescent can be used in so many recipes, it’s no wonder crescent tubes are known as a convenient food that can be unrolled quickly and used in favorite recipes. Our top favorite ways to use this dough are in these Ham and Cheese Crescent Roll-Ups, Pigs In A Blanket (hot dog crescent), and these Bacon Cheddar Pizza Twists!

Easy Pepperoni Rolls

Of course, you can make turnovers, plain rolls, apple dumplings, taco pie pizza, cinnamon rolls, flower bouquets, danishes, bars, pizza rings and much more! But the idea of keeping a few of these dough sheets in the fridge can make mealtime easy throughout a busy week.

And because crescent is a flexible dough, you can easily pinch the seams to shape it any way you like for your favorite crescent recipe. It’s basically like using a Pillsbury crescent roll from a tube. This recipe makes 2 sheets of dough with 8 triangles like Pillsbury dough.

Snack on it, make a pretty appetizer, use it with a chicken recipe, bake it with brie, make cups, or wrap it around smokies–there’s a recipe for you whether it’s dessert or breakfast!

Originally Pillsbury crescent rolls were made of flour, hydrogenated oil, preservatives, dough enhancer, sugar and yeast. The good part of making this dough is that healthy fats and flour can be used. Feed your family healthier ingredients such as swapping butter for margarine and unbleached flour for fortification.

Since homemade crescent dough keeps well in the fridge, you can use it within a week or freeze it for longer use. Keep in mind that hardened fat will harden once cooled, so plan accordingly and give your dough time to thaw on the counter before unrolling it. On the other hand, margarine remains soft even when cold, making it perfect for this purpose. However, I only use butter now.

The difference between crescent rolls and croissants is that crescent rolls are made from hydrogenated fat and yeast, much like baking powder. This creates a flexible dough that is easy to work with. Croissants, on the other hand, are layers of buttered flaky pastry sheets that are laminated with butter to create a flaky layer.

Although crescents and croissants are rolled starting from the widest part of the dough, they differ in texture and softness. Crescent dough is not as thin as Croissant.

A sheet of refrigerated crescent roll dough makes eight rolls. It makes an easy dinner or side by simply baking in the oven. Use your favorite Pillsbury recipe to make creative triangular snacks or go seam-free by pinching the seams for a quick cake or pizza crust.

This recipe makes two rectangular sheets of dough with 8 triangle cuts. This is the same as 2 cans of store-bought Crescent.

Crescent dough is equal to two (8 ounce) cans of store-bought crescent mooncakes that you make, roll, and bake. To mimic a Pillsbury crescent roll, you’ll need to roll the dough out on aluminum foil or parchment paper. This helps protect the dough from drying out or sticking.

Roll out the dough into a 12×8 rectangle on a piece of parchment paper. Using a bench scraper, cut the rectangle into 4 equal pieces, then each piece in half to make 8 triangles. Leave it on the paper and roll it into a triangular sheet starting at the shorter end. Place the rolled crescent sheets in a grocery bag and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Defrosting Instructions: Remove from refrigerator several hours before baking if using butter. Dough made from margarine or shortening will not take long to melt.

Homemade Crescent Dough is best chilled. However, longer use is possible if the dough is frozen, no longer than 2 months. When yeast sits in dough for a long time in the freezer, it can eventually lose its strength.

To Freeze Crescent: roll dough sheet out on parchment paper. Place rolled sheets in grocery bag and keep frozen for up to 2 months. Thaw completely before unrolling and using.

The original Crescent Roll Dough recipe calls for margarine, but we love butter. Semi-solid fats such as margarine or shortening are ideal for refrigerated dough because they are flexible once cooled. If you are using a solid fat like butter, you will need to thaw the dough from the fridge before using it.

Welcome to Alyona’s Cooking where sharing recipes is my daily expertise turning into a career! I have been cooking for my family for over 10 years and now in a busy home of eight people the demand for food has become even greater! That means I usually cook breakfast, dinner, the occasional dessert, and lunch most days, then share my favorites online! The flaky cinnamon twists are buttery and sweet. They only take 15 minutes. to make, and it’s gone in a matter of minutes!!

These little treats are filled with so much cinnamon goodness, they’re impossible to resist! I love quick snacks like Hot Dog Nuggets and Pizza Roll Ups, but these cinnamon sticks are the perfect and not too sweet snack for any time of day.

Mine do!! I admit it was a little annoying, but we ended up setting up some snack containers in the pantry that the kids know they can always have if they just ask. Please remember, we have some rules but kids know they get “snacks” between breakfast and lunch and between lunch and dinner.

Even though we have these snacks on hand, Lily and I often make a few “treats” for the family to enjoy throughout the day. One of those treats is a recipe we found a few years ago for Cinnamon Crescent Twists. This is a super simple treat that takes minutes to combine and is one the kids will love!

I mean, what’s not to love about sugar, cinnamon, and butter wrapped in crescent roll dough, right?! Kids also love getting into the kitchen and helping to make them, especially the twisting part. They’re so simple, they’re hard NOT to love.

Hands up if you’re a fan of recipes with less than 5 ingredients! I! And if you’re anything like me, I’m sure you are too. Lucky for us, this recipe only calls for FOUR ingredients!!

DOUGH. All you do is unroll the crescent dough and separate it into 4 rectangles, pressing the triangles together to form a rectangle.

CONTENTS. Spread melted butter on 2 rectangles and sprinkle a little less than half of the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the top. Take two non-buttered rectangles and place them on top of your buttered rectangles, pressing the edges together.

CUT & SPIN. Cut both rectangles into 6 strips and top with reserved melted butter. Turn each piece a few times and spread it out onto a baking sheet, sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon and sugar.

Tip. To keep the twist warm until serving, place it in a serving basket and cover tightly with foil.

Besides baking in the oven, you can easily fry them. Frying doesn’t add too much extra time and will give it a bit of a crunchy finish.

To FREEZE this for later, I would recommend baking it first. Let it cool completely before placing it in an airtight freezer safe container. Freeze for 1-2 months. Let it thaw at room temperature. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
