Tuna Appetizer Recipes – For our one year wedding anniversary we took a two week cruise through the Caribbean visiting the islands and soaking up as much sun as possible. And living in New York, and braving one of the worst winters to record, we were happy to be in the tropics. We ended the trip with a stay in San Juan, Puerto Rico where we discovered a famous Asian-Fusion restaurant located downstairs from our hotel and loved the unique flavors they served! We were so inspired by the adventures of traveling to the Caribbean and discovering the best Asian cuisine we’ve had so far, that we wanted to recap and share our favorites from the trip on the website & with you. ! While the ahi rests and soaks in olive oil (this makes the fish juicy & delicious you can do this for an hour or a few minutes before you take your time), take cilantro, garlic, lime juice, avocado, ginger, jalapeño. , wasabi and 2 tablespoons of your olive oil and put them in a food processor or blender. Mix until a fine paste, or tapenade. We transfer this to a squeeze bottle to put on top of our crackers when they are ready.

When your stove is very hot, remove the ahi and place it on a baking sheet or other large container. Scatter your black pepper around and press the pepper onto the ahi.
Tuna Tartare Recipe
While your skillet is on the heat check the top and bottom of your ahi steak. Let the ahi sit for a minute on each side to brown a little. When done, remove the ahi from the skillet and transfer to a clean cutting board. Cut into 1/2-inch cubes.
Using your squeeze bottle, or spoon, top the Mary’s Gone Crackers with your tape. You can be as generous as you want with these.

Ahi tuna is usually served raw in the middle, so it is safe to use the highest quality, sushi-grade (or grade 1) ahi from a reputable supplier. The fish market or counter should be able to answer any questions you have about the type/source of ahi tuna.
Technically, you can serve ahi tuna fully cooked, but it will be very different from seared ahi tuna. Cooked fish is always like canned fish; dry and withered. Pan-seared is considered the best way to cook ahi tuna.
It is important to make sure that your ahi tuna is not overcooked, as overcooking it creates an unpleasant texture that is chewy and dry. For ahi tuna steaks that are about 1 1/2 inches thick, we recommend turning on high heat for 1 1/2 minutes on each side. For the thinnest tuna fish, sear just one minute on each side.

Seared ahi is best eaten the same day. However, leftovers can be wrapped tightly and refrigerated for up to a day.

I use the same technique when making poke bowls. We prefer the gluten free version but I have included both in my recipes.
I serve this popular dish in shot glasses with ahi, rice, ginger soy sauce, and chopped green onions.
I like the ahi version, with maple soy sauce and green onions. They really enjoy the holidays.
Cook for about 30 seconds on each side. Use the image above as a guide. (If you don’t like seared ahi feel free to cook it all the way through.) Remove the ahi from the pan and cut into small pieces for an appetizer or to leave as steaks.
Asian Tuna Bites With Dijon Dipping Sauce Recipe: How To Make It
Cook the rice and set aside when done. Meanwhile, add equal parts soy and maple syrup. Add ginger.
Heat over medium heat to reduce. Before it starts to boil, lower the heat and continue to stir. Watch carefully so it doesn’t burn or overflow.
Combine the maple syrup, ginger, and soy sauce in a medium saucepan. Boil over medium heat until reduced to 1/2 cup, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes (do not boil).
If you want spicier ahi, mix 2 tsp. wasabi powder, and 21/2 tsp. water in a small bowl to make a thick but spreadable paste. Mix with crushed garlic. Apply about 1/4 tsp. place all sides of the tuna fish. Place the sesame seeds on a small plate. Press both sides of the tuna steak into the sesame seeds.
Tuna Cucumber Party Bites
Heat the oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add the tuna to the skillet and cook until the sesame seeds are browned, about 20 seconds on each side. Transfer to a board and cut each meat into small cubes.
Place small pieces in shot glasses or small bowls. Drizzle with maple ginger soy sauce. Top with chopped green onions.
